The winning streak is broken thanks to a servo arm!

Nothing can last forever, after 29 straight heat wins since June 3 last year I had a DNF in the main final. I kind of like numbers and stats and to challenge myself. I've tried to be as fast and consistent as possible and win every heat I put the car on the track. Every race we have has 5 heats, I looked back and saw that I had won every single one since Linköping June 3 last year. That 5 races, totalling 25 heats up until this race. So let's get into what happened in Nyköping.

I arrived at the track without having had the time to look over the car since last race as I've been busy at work and other family matters. I knew the from diff was leaking and after the practice it was completely empty so I had to do a quick diff rebuild in the front as well as change a plastic bushing in the rear hub that was worn out. I also tried both Astro Max hard and GRP W91 Cross as this track has some very slippery curves consisting of different materials. I choose the GRP tires as I think they were the best compromise.

The qualifier went well where I also managed to set the fastest lap of the day. This is usually done early in the day as the tracks always gets pretty beaten up in LSOR racing.

I can summarise the 1/8, quarter and semi final in the same way. I started first and never looked back. The track was getting bumpier and bumpier so you really had to watch put where you put your car and where you could use the throttle and where you just had to roll over the holes. This track always gets some holes with some hard edges as it's a grass track and this becomes worse for every year. This also makes it a little bit adventurous and unpredictable even if you drive smart. So even if I had had a quite comfortable driving up until this point I knew any thing could happen in the final…

…and it did. I got a clean start right away and pulled away from the rest. I was driving around feeling safe and in control and was leading with help a lap after just 6 laps as I was entering the main straight where I all the sudden just lost the steering. The car went straight of the track in the first corner. What a surprise that was, as I hadn't been in any serious or major crash or even bumping into anything.

I immediately suspected a broken servo arm as this has happened in the last race as well but that time I could continue racing and didn't even notice it. I ran straight to the pits to put on a new one just to be able to get back on the track to save some points. I knew the chance of winning or even podium was gone of course but I have the cup to fight for and every position is 2 points and I don't have any drop race to use as I'm not going to race the next time due to vacation conflict.

I put on a new arm and got the car back on the track. I didn't have time to put on the small tightening screw and knew this was a risk. But in the first corner the car went straight again. Now it was over for real and I ended up last in the final with a DNF and loosing 16 important points. But that's racing and I couldn't be happier to see some new faces on the podium and Anders Wohlfart winning after having climbed from the B-final. That was really great to see. We have a very even filed of many good racers so it's nice to see some others being on the podium for a change.

After getting back home and having looked at the car I saw that the other servo arm was stripped from its teeth as one of the tightening screws was loose. So broken arm and stripped teeth on the other arms was the verdict. Both servos are still fine, I love how solid the AGFRC servos are, never brake. So now I will look for better servo arms but also make sure that the servo savers works smoothly so the engage as designed.

I will miss the next race and I'm now looking forward to the cup final in Norrköping that will be exciting and decide on the final positions.
