Report from
Southern Indoor Championship 2024
This past weekend I headed to Alabama to join up with the Tekno RC team and take part in the 2024 Southern Indoor Championships. The Racetime Entertainment crew put in one of the better layouts they have provided in a while and I think everyone was stoked. Big thank you to the JConcepts crew for providing trackside support as well as a great pit for those that needed it. I ended up finishing 3rd in 1/8th Pro Truggy, 4th in 1/8th Pro Nitro Buggy, and took the win in 1/8th Pro E-Buggy.
__________
Practice and qualifying went pretty well. I focused on a race pace in qualifying which I could do for an extended period of time. The qualifying day was long and with plenty of time between classes, I was able to keep up with the maintenance and tried to have multiple JConcepts tire options ready to rip.
__________
This all paid off and I was able to take the overall TQ in Pro Truggy, 2nd in Pro E-buggy, and 3rd on the grid in Pro Nitro Buggy. These are spots that you can easily work with and I was ready to take advantage on Sunday. First up was Pro Truggy, the race was a slug fest with myself, Dakotah, and Camden all hauling for the whole 30 minutes. The ProTek RC Samurai power was running well and I was in and out of the pits consistently. A made a few mistakes which set me back and one in particular was an extremely long crash and took me out of contention for the win. Overall, I finished 3rd a bit off of where I wanted to be, but I met the goal of getting on the podium. Super proud of Camden Lime for keeping it all together and bringing home 2nd. Congrats to Dakotah on a great win.
__________
A few of us for the Pro Nitro Buggy main went with the new JConcepts Falcon tire. The warmup felt awesome after a freshly blown track but my pace slowed as more and more dust crept on to the track. I realized early that Brandon Rose was flying and Dakotah was keeping pace but pushing the limit with the track deteriorating as the race went on. I was pretty content with just holding 3rd but the inconsistency was causing some problems. Mason Fuller gained a lot of momentum and got by me toward the end of the race and I surrendered 3rd with a lap or 2 to go. Kind of a disappointing finish for me getting 4th, but we were all pumped for Brandon Rose getting a win. Dakotah and Mason had good runs as well finishing 2nd and 3rd. It was cool to see Brandon get a win on the new JConcepts Falcon tire in a debut race.
__________
I’ll admit, before the A2 Pro E-buggy main, I was pretty pissed off. I made some changes to the car to provide a little more grip on the dusty track and I just went for it. I knew the only way to get a win on the weekend, I needed a good start and a solid and aggressive drive for 10 minutes. The Tekno was dialed in A2. The changes were amazing and the Hobbywing Power really came alive after getting a little more grip on the dust. I went with the trusty Reflex and green compound and got the overall win. Congrats to Dakotah on 2nd overall and Mason Fuller getting the new Sworkz rides up to speed and climbing up to another 3rd overall on the day.
__________
A couple cool things from the weekend, the FlySky radio takes another couple of wins, the debut of the Falcon tire, Brandon Rose putting the pieces together and Lee Setser getting a TQ in Pro E-Buggy.
__________
Thanks to Scott Heckert and anyone who was helping in the pits getting us fuel and keeping us on the track. I’m already looking forward to the next event, the TNR Fuels event at The Dirt in Perris, California.
