So I’ll try and explain the most craziest 9 days of largescale RC
First off the road trip through Europe visiting RCfox and then onto Micheal Schumacher museum followed by Nürburgring for some GT 1,2 & 3 racing Action. Finishing with the Nürburgring motor museum.
Then onto Nuremberg for some respite before travelling onto Prague for the day to do some Shooting.
Then onto the Czech Republic for the EFRA largescale race Championship.
The first 3 days went fast with trying various setups from aggressive on the 160mm wheels, to very soft and smooth on the big 180mm wheels.
We eventually settled on a less aggressive but very consistent setup and made the car easy to drive, we held off running the premium grip Tyres until the finals as these were in short supply so the lap times were a little misleading up to that point.
We qualified 6th overall with very limited running after plus a hinge pin failure in qualifying with only one solid round, that then put us into 3rd in the sub final B.
The team worked late into Thursday night going through the car and dialling in the setup ready for the finals and bolting on the premium grip.
The start of the B final went pretty much as well as I could have hoped for quickly getting past P2 and chasing P1 before they unfortunately had a issue and retired from the race leaving me with about a 10 Second over P2 so all I needed to do was continue hitting the delta lap time and maintain that gap which was a tough ask given the ever changing track but I managed to keep it all together and put it on to P1 in the main A Final.
As one of two team GB drivers in the Main A final the pressure was on with the hope and expectation of team GB for some Silverware.
Opening 4 laps were unbelievably hard with a very close battle between myself and P2 until he unfortunately had some radio issues and then left me in some clear air. The team radioed for some Consistent laps and started to open a second a lap gap on P2, with the car now being in the sweet spot setup wise these laps were now becoming faster and faster.
About 15 mins into the race the attention moved over to fuel saving as we were on the limit in the MCD as we cannot run the 850 ml of fuel as the other SC cars are able to. With the constant communication from the Mechanics of Patrick Vice and Wally Oates they ensured that the gap of around 17 seconds remained over P2 until the end of the final.
So following on from the P2 in Austria we wanted to return and try and better that performance.
So big thanks to the team GB for the best environment to have trackside.
Team TPS for making everything happen.
