In 1986, two years before this race, I failed to even advance to the finals of the World Championship in the same category, which I participated in for the first time in the USA, and was reminded of my low ability. Two years later, at the World Championship held in Holland, I became a member of Team Yokomo, and at the same time I joined Team Associated in the United States.

Equipped with special tires made by Yokomo, a motor tuned up by Mr. Mike Reedy, a special servo made by KO PROPO, a special receiver, etc., the car was in a battle for the top spot in qualifying.

The lightweight body of TOJ was shown by President of Associated Mr. Roger Curtis and vice President of Associated Mr. Gene Husting, saying, "Do you want to use this too?"
When I answered, "I want to use it, but it's not painted...", the body disappeared from my sight.

After a while, I received a beautifully painted body. Mr. Killam, who was participating in the same race, canceled the race and painted it. 
At the same time, Mr. Roger gave me the one and only Associated jacket that he was wearing in the world.

I made revenge for the previous race by scoring the top finish in both the qualifying and the final by "ASSOCIATED RC12LC".

このレースの2年前となる1986年、アメリカで初参加した同カテゴリーの世界選手権では決勝に進出することすらかなわず、実力の低さを思い知らされた。あれから2年、チームヨコモの一員になると同時に、アメリカのチーム アソシエイテッドにも加入しての参加となったオランダで開催された世界選手権。

現地ではヨコモ製のスペシャルタイヤ、マイク・リーディ氏がチューンナップしたモーター、KO製のスペシャルサーボ、スペシャル受信機などを搭載し、予選でトップ争いを繰り広げる中、アソシエイテッドのロジャー・カーチス社長とジーン・ハスティング副社長より「これも使うか？」と見せられたのがTOJの軽量ボディ。
「使いたいですけど塗装してないので...」と答えると、そのボディは目の前から消えて行った。

しばらくすると、綺麗に塗装されたボディが手元に届いた。同じレースに参加していたKillam氏がレースをキャンセルして塗装してくれたらしい。同時に、ロジャー氏が着用していた、世界に1着しかないアソシ ジャケットを私にプレゼントしてくれた。
