The ROAR Nationals has always been one of the most important races in America

The ROAR Nationals has always been one of the most important races in America. This year, with the optimism the new ROAR crew would bring, I stayed open minded. From the first drivers meeting, you could tell the vibes were different. To be able to navigate around such a top notch facility like A main Silver Dollar RC at another ROAR event, is priceless. These guys have a really rad facility and I enjoyed it in 2015, and it was even better this time around.

Clayton and his crew really set the tone in the drivers meeting. It was about having fun and not worrying about some of the old dumb rules they had enforced in the past, Claytons words. Onto bigger and better things it feels, and the racing time schedule alone would be a big improvement to the program.

Both HB rides felt pretty comfortable out the gate, basically just needed to learn the track pretty quick as we didn't attend the warmup. Ended up seeding 3rd in truck and 5th in buggy. The start wasn't to bad, and heading into quals I felt comfortable. 5 minute quals in truck, 10 minutes in buggy.

Managed to rack up a 4th and 6th in the first day of buggy, to solidify a spot in the semi, but wanting to better it on the 2nd day of quals. Made a few tweaks, and even tried some tires day 2 but ended up being a wash. Truggy quals weren't to shabby, our TZO truck tires came in the mail Thursday late so we finally got to strap some TZO rubbers onto the truck and they felt great.

Semi time rolls around, starting P3, we rode around lingering in 4th the majority of the race and would have a time to start me 6th overall in the 1 hour final. The truck main was a bit different and unusual for me. I ended up running out of gas on my in lap of pit 2. The truck had really great pace and with a few mistakes on my end plus running out of fuel, it was pretty much over.

The 1 hour nitro buggy final was long. It took everything I had to make a few last minute changes and rebuild the whole car in an hour before the race. It felt fine out of the gate and the tires felt different throughout the race with the wear being so high. It drove in stages with the pin wearing down and had a different balance throughout the race. Mistakes in my end and flat out inconsistency, would make it a really long and tough main. We had speed in the opening laps, but quickly fell off and managed the entirety of the race. I'd end up P8 while battling B. Rose to the line on the last lap, but he squeeked her out in front of me.

Big thanks to Cody Thompson for all the bang up pits, him and Fishback both, but mainly anything needed, Cody was there to help. Enjoyed a few nice home-cooked meals to keep our bellies full and mind in the right head space. Walker came in during the 1 hour prep sesh before the main with some wrench help, and it was a team effort at that point for Mason and I and we greatly appreciate all involved.

I want to thank everyone that lent a hand in helping me, but helping the HB team as a whole, we greatly appreciate it, and most importantly, a big thanks to my sponsors!

Onto the Visions Race on Wednesday! 🔥🤘
