Win and full score in Linköping!

After a pretty problematic race in Sandhem it was now time to head to the Sviestad track in Linköping that has always ben a favourite track of mine as it requires very good throttle control and keep calm and a good flow. This is not a track for trigger happy drivers, on many tracks you can go really fast by punching the throttle and keep it together but on this track it's practically impossible.

This time my engine was on fire and really showing what a good tuned engine it is and I was using the new N-R-P clutch for the fast time, and will will get back to that later and also in a separate post.

But let's start with practice which was mostly about testing different tires. Started with some old Astro Max but choose to go with MicroStud that was a good balance between the hard packed clay and the astro.
I did manage to break the steering servo arm in one not too serious crash. This track is fairly hard on your equipment. I changed the arm and loosened the servo saver just to be on the safe side.

The qualification race wen great and I finished a lap up on the second place putting me in pole for the 1/8 final.

In the 1/8 final I started by crashing on the first jump so I had to work myself up from last position but I was already in the lead after 3 laps and good then take it home comfortably.

In the quarter final I set the fastest lap of the day at 33.988 where nobody else managed to get below 35. Normally I have a very consistent pace with little deviation but very seldom the quickest lap.
After the quarter final I did the regular check of the car and so a small crack in the rear outer driveshaft. It turned out not to be just a crack but it was broken. I managed just to replace it in the time for the semifinal. But my spare didn't seem to have the exact same dimensions, it didn't go all the way into the cup so I had to adjust the upper arms giving the car a slight positive camber.

Starting first in the semifinal I could run a clean race and finish first. Didn't feel any difference with the positive camber so that was good.

In the final you count the points from all the previous race to determine the starting position and since I finished first in all I had full points and started in pole.
Before start off the final I looked at my tires and saw that they might not last the whole final as they were 2 years old and started to get cracks. I had no time to change them so I decided to run even smoother and be very “nice” to the tires.
I managed to get a good start but after two laps the car got into a hole and flipped around. I got into second but could quickly retake the first position and led the race comfortably after about 5 minutes when the race was stopped. The timing loop had been damaged.

As we now had some time as they were repairing the timing loop I took a quick decision to switch the tires to the Astro Grip. I knew another driver tried these and they seemed to work. This was a risk as I hadn't tried them but the alternative was to risk tired blowing up and failing on me a bit into the final. To my relief the tires felt good at the warm up lap and I could start without having to worry about the tires.

The final was pretty uneventful, I drove fairly controlled and didn't want to take any risks as I knew I had the pace so I didn't need to push. Therefore I didn't pull away from the rest of the field as I've done in the other races but in the end I lapped all the drivers as I've done in all the previous races. A combination of consistence and speed really showed the difference at this track.

I promised to get back to the clutch, but you have to follow this link to read more about that review. But the short summary is I liked it very much, smooth and controlled but I could punch if I really needed to.

It felt really great to be able to win all the races during the day as well as setting the fastest lap. When everything works I know I have a very competitive package, the Ultron is really smooth on this track handling all the bumps very gracefully and the RN Tuning engine was really on point giving me all the power and acceleration I needed.

I want to congratulate the other podium winners, Robin for second place and Morgan for third place. Me and Morgan now  have the exact same points in the total cup, exciting but I have  can't race all races so don't have the advantage of a drop race.

Next time we're heading to Nyköping in about a months time. Feels good to not have any real problems to fix before then, just go through and clean up and check the car. I will probably do some adjustments to the driveshaft to be able to get back to the negative camber again.
