IFMAR 1:8 IC Buggy World Championship 2022
The 2022 World Championships are over and I’m grateful to have experienced it! The RC-Redován crew built us an amazing track that was incredibly difficult to get around fast and required a car and driver that were on point if I wanted to be within 1-2 seconds a lap of the top guys. It was an uphill battle to adjust to this new style of driving for me and also get a comfortable feeling with the car but thanks to my dad and my HB teammates I was happy with everything by the end of seeding.

The 10 minute qualifiers were full of good potential, bad luck and unfocused driving at times. Round 1 was going good but someone driving through me and a fuel gun catching my wing in pit lane would cost me 10 seconds or so.
Round 2 was much better I had a clean run with a good pit stop which was good for 28th for the round. I was feeling good and was confident I could improve in round 3 but I couldn’t keep it together and made too many mistakes. The 2nd day of qualifying wouldn’t get better, a small mistake in round 4, wrong tire choice in round 5 and outright bad driving in 6 would have me 47th overall in the 1/8 finals.

On Saturday I was the first race up and with the sun still behind the mountain, the track and air were 30 degrees cooler than the last time I ran. This was a mistake on my part as I didn’t make any adjustments for the cooler weather making the car quite hard to drive. Regardless I was maintaining 6th until about 10 minutes in but couldn’t keep it up for the next 20. The dirty driving in that race was something I’ve never seen before but I don’t think I would have bumped anyways as I didn’t have the pace.

Despite not feeling well the whole week I gave it my all and finished in the top 50, for having a bad race, that’s not too bad and I’ll take it. I’m glad I got to go to Spain, see new places and meet new people! Thanks to my dad, Walker Spinrad for all the help pitting and wrenching you guys did great all week. Thanks to Nicola Marrone for taking care of the Hotrace team and providing us with the best tire hands down. Of course I can’t thank my sponsors enough for supporting me!

Also big congrats to my boy Cole Ogden for finishing p9 and showing he’s one of the most talented drivers to do it and Davide Ongaro for his 2nd WC title in a row, how you’ve developed the car and how you drive it is simply amazing to see!
