Urban Challenger Series - Pilot Event (26 June 2022)
As part of our efforts to introduce more hobbyists to the joys of RC racing, we will be establishing the UTS Challenger Series which will feature some additional fun onroad racing classes for the rest of 2022. The objective is for everyone to have fun racing alternative classes that are not in our main Urban Touring Series (UTS) events.
Classes
GT Class (21.5T Motor*, Blinky ESC, Controlled Gear Ratio (TBA), GT Bodyshell preferred but not mandatory for Pilot Event)
Mini Class (TAC Rules with 17.5T Motor**)
Truck Class (TAC Rules with 17.5T Motor**)
Formula Class (UTS F1 Class Rules. 21.5T Motor*)
* Motor must be approved by EFRA, BRCA, ROAR or IFMAR
** Motor must be on UTS 17.5T Motor List
The detailed rules will be advised in due course but the principle to be applied will be to keep everything simple, fair and cost effective.
Race Fees (Pilot Event Only)
Urban RC Track Season Pass Holders : $10 (1 class) / + $5 for 2 or more classes
Non-Track Season Pass Holders : $35 / + $5 for 2 or more classes
-
Bodyshell - For the pilot event only, we will open the class to all bodyshells (ie GT shell preferred, but non GT shells are acceptable). So no need to prep a new shell just for this pilot event race. Yay!
-
Qualifying - To allow for the development of our newer racers, we will trial a mixed qualifying format (see below). After qualifying, we will pair the more experienced racers who qualify higher with those who qualify lower to race in the finals as a 2-person team.
Q1 and Q2 will be use the following mixed format to determine the 2-person team for the finals:
- Q1 : 7-min standard qualifying run based on laps and time
- Q2 : 20-min window to clock best 3 consecutive laps
At the end of Q1 and Q2, the qualifying points for each racer will be aggregated, and ranked. The ranking will be used to determine the 2-person pairing for the finals. Basically a driver from the top half of qualifying (the A driver), will be paired with a driver from the lower half of qualifying (the B driver).
-
Finals Grid Order - To determine the grid order for the finals, Q3 will be run where the B driver of the team will be coached to run the best 5-consecutive laps. The result of the 5-consecutive total laptimes of each B-driver will be used to determine the grid for the finals.
-
Finals - The final will be run in a team format, with triple 10-min finals. The first driver of the team will complete a 5-min run with his own car, and the second driver will then complete the next 5mins with his own car.
